Pitch Preview: Jefferson Lady Dragons

Molly McCarty and her program made history with an appearance in the State Championship game, falling in a tight battle. It was a remarkable run, and shows what this team is capable of. They are set for an encore performance in 2023.
HEAD COACH: Molly McCarty (7th Season)
2022 RECORD: 14-4-1; 4A State Runner-Up; #2 State Ranking
RETURNING STARTERS: 4
KEY DEPARTURES: CM Carter Drake; Forwards Abbey Eison, Rylie Servatius; Defenders Macy McGinnis, Lanie McCarty
KEY PLAYERS: Ella Parker, Molly Parker, Mackenzie Tooke, Ella Sellers, Zoey Short, Kate James, Maggy Hopcraft, Bella Jube
STRENGTHS: “Leadership across all grade levels is our strength,” states McCarty. “With each season, we continue to raise the standards and expectations. Our depth right now is giving us dynamic versatility. The quality of our overall program from 6th-12th is a reflection of this leadership and the buy-in from our community members, families and players.”

The expectations after a state title game appearance are sky-high, even when considering the team lost such talents as Carter Drake (5 G, 14 A), Abbey Eison (33 G, 9 A), Rylie Servatius (13 G, 4 A), and stellar defenders Macy McGinnis and Lanie McCarty. Ella Parker is back, and had 21 goals and 16 assists (school record), and likely will take over the goal-scoring duties previously assigned to Eison. Ella Sellers recorded 10 shutouts last year, and will be crucial to the success of the team once again.
“Our legacy hashtag is #finishbusiness,” adds McCarty. “Of course, our ultimate goal is to win the state championship, but we have a lot of soccer ahead of us that will be challenging in a brand new region and classification. Our current seniors will have played in 3A, 4A and now 5A classification. Our goal is to be playing our best soccer by region play with our non-region opponents allowing us to expose our weaknesses and fine tune our team play.”
