Week Seven Scores & Recaps

Week Seven was an oddity, as all local teams and over 120 games statewide were played on Thursday night, moving up due to the incoming weather from Hurricane Ian.

*keep checking back for additions to the recaps as that data becomes available.*

Dawson County 31, White County 0

It was a defensive battle at first. Neither team got in the red zone in the entire first quarter, except when Dawson County converted a 48-yd hook and ladder trick play TD with 6 seconds to go in the first half. It broke a scoreless tie, and got the Tigers going. Dawson took advantage of 4 interceptions, and it was Davis Glass who found Dom LeBlanc, who flipped quickly to a trailing Matt Bennett for that first TD. Glass added a 6-yd TD run in the third, LeBlanc connected on a 32-yd FG, and Kenny Nelson scored from 34 yards out to end the third up 24-0. Nelson scored on a pick-six in the fourth to cap the scoring. Dawson has a 2-game win streak.

#2 Rabun County 21, Fellowship Christian 16

The Wildcats went on the road and took up a 21-16 nail-biter. In the first quarter, it appeared to be a normal Rabun County blowout upcoming when Keegan Stover found Jaden Gibson for a 70-yd TD. Fellowship battled back before Stover rushed in a short-yardage TD before the break to make it 14-7. The Cats go their third TD in the third to push it to 21-10, and held on from there to remain undefeated at now 6-0.

#6 Jefferson 28, Winder-Barrow 0

The Dragons secured a shutout win as the defense flexed once again. Max Aldridge threw a TD in the second quarter to his cousin Jack Eubanks for the 7-0 lead. He then threw a long TD to Elijah Dewitt later in the quarter to push it up to 14-0. Before the break, Aldridge threw his third TD, this time to Zay Minish for another long TD and the 21-0 lead. Isaiah Copeland scored on a rushing TD in the fourth to cap it off.

Wesleyan 28, Lumpkin County 14

After trailing 7-0 after one quarter, the Indians tied it up on a Mason Sullens 3-yd TD to open the second. Wesleyan took the lead late in the half, and never let it go. The Wolves scored twice in the final 2 minutes of the half to pull ahead 21-7. That deficit reached 28-7 in the fourth before Cooper Scott connected with Cal Faulkner for a TD with about 8 minutes to play. That was the final as Lumpkin drops its first game of the season.

Greene County 23, Towns County 6

Towns County fell 23-6 to move to 1-4 on the season.

Jackson County 38, Habersham Central 13

The Raiders dropped another contest with a 38-13 defeat at Jackson County, moving to now 0-2 in region play.

#4 Stephens County 27, #6 Monroe Area 24

Monroe Area looked to spoil the region opener for Stephens County, but the Indians wouldn’t be denied. Monroe led 14-7 after the first, and it was a 17-10 Purple Hurricane lead going into the break. The third quarter belonged to Stephens, who punched in 2 TDs to take a 24-17 lead. A field goal in the fourth was the difference in a 27-24 top-10 win.

Commerce 31, First Presbyterian 26

The Tigers won a nail-biter of 31-26 in a tough road game, making it 3 wins in a row. First Presbyterian struck first before Tysean Wiggins got a 16-yd TD to tie it up. Commerce trailed 13-7 at the break, but came alive in the second half. Jaiden Daniels notched an 18-yd TD to pull ahead 14-13, and an Ivy Tolbert FG with 8 minutes left in the fourth gave Commerce a slim 17-13 cushion. FP went ahead with 5:12 to go in the game on a TD, but Daniels retaliated with a TD with 2:11 left in the game. That made it 24-20, but both teams weren’t done. Daniels got a third TD that proved the difference in this one.

East Jackson 55, Banks County 24

Banks County suffered back-to-back losses after going 4-0 to open the season. This one stings a bit as its the region opener for the Leopards, who will look to bounce back against Union at home next week.
