Rabun County left no doubt in its season-opening scrimmage that it can still produce at a high level. The #3-ranked Wildcats took on #9-ranked Bowdon in a statement scrimmage. Though Rabun never trailed, an explosive second quarter put the Cats up for good. With the starters out in the second half for Rabun, Bowdon kept their QB in for most of the third, but the young Rabun players held on for the 34-21 win.

The offense and defense both had minor hiccups in the first, as penalties stalled out the first drive. Keegan Stover then connected with Jaden Gibson on a 5-yd TD to open the scoring with nine seconds left in the quarter. That jumpstarted Rabun, who looked much more cohesive in the second. Stover and Gibson again hooked up on a 37-yd TD in which the star receiver toed the line in the back corner of the end zone. Bowdon retaliated with a rushing TD to pull within 14-7, but the Cats answered on the very next play when Stover found a wide open Cory Keller for a 65-yd TD, pushing the lead back to 21-7.
Lang Windham added an 18-yd TD run with 31 seconds to go in the quarter, after Bowdon converted a 4th & long for a passing TD. Windham’s score gave Rabun County the 28-14 halftime lead. Field goals by Marcus Remilliard and Cody Woodard in the second half capped the scoring, and freshman QB Ty Truelove showed flashes of the future, as did Reid Giles at receiver and Noah English at RB.
