BLITZ has selected Cruz Mullinix (Stephens County) and JP Allen (Commerce) as Baseball Players of the Week following the first round of the state tournament.

CRUZ MULLINIX – BLITZ PICK

Stephens County senior Cruz Mullinix was lights out in the first round sweep of Rockmart. It was a 4-over-1 massive upset, and the southpaw was crucial on the bump. Mullinix struck out the final two batters to finish game one, and started the second game, going 6.1 innings while striking out 10 more. That gave him a 1-0 mark, 0.00 ERA, and a dozen strikeouts in the first round. This is Mullinix’s first POW award.

JP ALLEN – BLITZ PICK

Commerce sophomore JP Allen was unbeatable at the plate. The second baseman was 3-for-3 with three walks and four runs scored in the first round sweep of Armuchee. He hit 1.000 and had a perfect OBP as well, not making a single out. Being on base paid dividends with four runs scored. This is Allen’s first POW award.
