White County pulls off rare feat as two players hit 1K on the same night

A team with a 1,000-point scorer is not that common. To have 2 is something far more rare. Rarer still is when 2 hit the mark in the same game – in fact, we’re not sure if and when it’s last been done. White County pulled off the trick in a win over North Hall on Saturday when both junior Jadon Yeh and senior Silas Mulligan did the unthinkable.
“To be honest, they haven’t said one word about it,” says coach Robbie Bailey on the feat. “That’s the type of kids they are. Going into the game, Silas needed 20 and Jadon needed 22. The coaches knew but I don’t know if they knew the exact amount. There weren’t any special plans going into the game. They are our 2 leading scorers, so it was business as usual. This was a battle of 2 teams in first place at 8-1 in the region. Those guys are proud of their accomplishment, but knowing both of them, they would have been upset if we would have lost.”

Fortunately, with a 72-57 dominant win for the Warriors on their own home court over the Trojans, they not only enjoyed taking sole possession of first place in 7-AAA, but also got to enjoy the history that unfolded. Yeh needed 22, and got 30. Mulligan needed 20, and hit the mark exactly.
“I have never seen that in my 25 years of coaching,” adds Bailey. “To have it happen at home, in such a big game, made it even more special. I am proud of both of them. They are not ‘me first’ young men. They are focused on winning a region title for the first time in school history. They want to accomplish that. Our team seemed more excited about it than they did. They were focused on beating North Hall.”
“I think it was really special to be able to do it on the same night,” says Yeh. “Once we saw that we were both close a couple games ago, we definitely wanted to be able to do it in the same game. It’s something that doesn’t happen very often, if ever, so it was cool to be a part of something like that.”

Yeh hit the 1K mark first, and savored the moment.
“When I hit my 1000th, it was really exciting and the game stopped, so it was cool to just be able to take in the moment and then I knew it was Silas’s turn to get his,” says Yeh. “Our teammates made it special as well because they were trying to give us the ball once we were close and always telling us how many more we had, so it just showed how close we are as a team.”

“I also think it was a very special moment for not just me and Jadon, but our whole team,” adds Mulligan. “We’re all pretty close as a team so I really appreciate having a great team. It’s always been one of my dreams to score 1000. I’m glad I got to do it with Jadon.”
The Warriors have heated up lately with 6 straight wins, moving to 13-7 overall on the season and 9-1 in region play.
