Gobble gobble! Now that the Thanksgiving turkey is devoured, we hit the road for probably the furthest we’ve ever gone to cover a local team. Rabun County goes all the way down (325 miles and over 5 hours) to Thomasville in a game that really should be the state title game. This is #1 versus #2, and is a rematch of the 2019 Quarterfinal game, also at Thomasville.
This team has all the hype surrounding them. The Bulldogs are 11-1 on the season, and won the region title out of Region 1-AA. Thomasville is ranked #2 in the state behind only Rabun County, and its offense averages north of 30 per game. The defense allows around 14 per contest, so the balance is very good for this team. So far this postseason, the Bulldogs have a 42-7 win over Washington County and a 42-16 win over Heard County to reach this point.
Rabun County continues its drive in the playoffs after a beatdown of the state’s top defense (5 points per game) in Jeff Davis. It was a 56-7 win for the Cats, who had only 3 penalties in the game and played the cleanest, most dominant game probably in their history. Gunner Stockton once again had a field day, slinging the ball for over 440 yards and Jaden Gibson had 237 yards receiving. The defense thwarted the run game, and didn’t allow anything in the air of note. In fact, the 7-yard TD pass in the closing seconds against the second string was all Jeff Davis could muster. It was all 7 passing yards in the game for them, and the run game came up with just over 100. The way Rabun is playing…no one can compete with this.
