It took the opening kick to set the tone, as Cory Keller took it back 79 yards for the score as #1-ranked Rabun County went on to win 63-0 at Banks County in Homer. Gunner Stockton threw 6 TD passes as he now sits just 3 away from Trevor Lawrence’s state all-time record. Stockton threw for a career high in yards, collecting his fourth career 400-plus yard game.
The Wildcats (7-1; 2-0 in 8-AA) were propelled by a 28-point second quarter that guided them to a 42-0 lead at the half. With a running clock in the second half, Rabun still found the end zone 3 more times against Banks County (1-6; 0-2).
After Keller’s TD on the opening kick, Stockton’s first TD pass of the night went to Baxley O’Brien, who had a career-high 3 TD catches. The first was good for 12 yards, while the second came on the first play of the second quarter from 1 yard out also to O’Brien. A few minutes later, Stockton found Ethan Clarke up the middle for a 24-yard TD to push the lead to 28-0.
In the final few minutes of the half, Stockton threw a 66-yard bomb to Jaden Gibson, who entered as the state’s receiving yardage leader, and once more to O’Brien from 4 yards out. Coming out of the break, Stockton connected with Gibson, who went 25 yards for the score and the 49-0 lead. Lang Windham had a 36-yard rushing TD in the fourth, while junior Nic Baloga had his first TD as a Wildcat in the closing minutes.
Rabun County continued its trend of cruising past Banks County, as the Wildcats have won the last 3 meetings 345-26, and 134-0 over the last two games. Stockton passed for a career best 454 yards and had yet another 6 passing TD game, tying his career high. Meanwhile, Gibson tallied a career high in receiving yards with 260. Windham had 77 rushing yards and 67 receiving.
Stockton, with his career performance, also moved past Deshaun Watson in career TD passes, one game after passing him for the career total TD record. Stockton is now second to only Trevor Lawrence in passing TD. He also surpassed 12,000 career passing yards in the game, moving him ahead of Harrison Bailey for fourth all-time in yards.
