Jefferson’s Moore, Morris earn Player of the Week honors
13 individuals earned titles at the GHSA State Championships for Track & Field last weekend. For their efforts, Jefferson’s Anna Moore and Eli Morris were named Player of the Week after a public Fan Vote determined the winners.
A grand total of 42,636 votes were casted, with Eli Morris accumulating the most overall (17,316). Morris’ total surpassed the previous voting record of 17,237 just weeks ago by Jefferson soccer player Abbey Eison. Morris barely edged Commerce’s Shannon Segars (16,908) Moore’s 3,521 led the girls vote.
Junior Anna Moore picked the perfect moment to have her best vault. The Lady Dragons’ Class 3A State Champion earned the title with an 11-4 in the finals, easily clearing the runner-up, teammate Claire Kulniszewski (10-0).
Moore’s top podium spot helped guide Jefferson to a 3rd-place team finish.
Eli Morris had about the best state meet we have seen in years. The senior hurdler was at the top of his game, taking the crown in the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles. He followed that up with a 5th place finish in his part of the 4×400 Relay.
Morris, a T&F Athlete of the Year Finalist, was a huge reason the Dragons also walked away with the Class 3A team title. His 300-meter hurdle time of 37.67 was a personal best for him.
