Jefferson boys & girls, Union boys battle for state title game bids

Jefferson and Union boys and girls both played in the quarterfinals, and now only three remain: Jefferson girls, Jefferson boys, and Union boys as the semifinals open on Tuesday. Winners advance to the state championship game in their respective classifications.

CLASS 3A

Jefferson Lady Dragons @ Lovett

The #7 Lady Dragons are riding momentum after a 4-2 win over #3-ranked Pike County, and that after a 2-0 win over #2 Dawson. Jefferson (14-4-1) has allowed 11 goals all season, while scoring 56. Lovett is next for the Lady Dragons.

Lovett (12-4-1) is a goal-scoring fene (97 goals), and have 11 shutouts on defense this season. Lovett is ranked #5 in the state, so this makes three straight games Jefferson takes on a top-5 team.

Jefferson Dragons @ Westminster

The #6-ranked Dragons (17-2) had another thriller win, a 1-0 victory of Tattnall County, to advance to the semifinals. Jefferson’s defense remains perfect in the playoffs without allowing a goal. Jefferson has 63 goals for and just 10 against all season. The Dragons have six straight shutouts to this point, and 13 total on the season.

Westminster (19-1-1) represents the very best in Class 3A as the #1 team in the state. Their defense also has 13 shutouts in 2019, and Westminster has scored 88 goals on offense as well.

Union Co Panthers @ Vidalia

Union County (12-4) cruised to a 4-0 win over fellow-#4-seed Jefferson Davis in the quarterfinals. It was a very rare all 4-seed matchup in that section of the bracket. The Panthers have 44 total goals for, and 24 against this season.

Next up, #6-ranked Vidalia (14-3), on the road. They have allowed 27 goals on the season, so the defense is prone to allow some into the back of the net. However, the 89 goals scored for this team proves that the offense is very aggresive.
