Local North Georgia seniors & juniors honored with North Georgia Classic invites

The 8th Annual Academy & Sports Outdoors North Georgia All-Star Classic, scheduled for March 15-16, features 19 North Georgia stars. The junior game consists of the top 24 individuals across the area, while the senior game consists of 20.


The All-Star Classic “Away Team” features the players north of Hall County, and contains Luke Chism (Dawson), Ty Nails (Stephens), Austin Harris (White), and Wes Ledford & Noah Rylee (Banks).

The girls Classic Away Team includes Kaylee Sticker (Dawson), Brooke Henricks (Rabun), Jaycie Bowen & Amber Williams (Banks), Mackenzie Pulley (Lumpkin), and is coached by Banks County’s Steve Shedd.

In the junior game, the boys’ Away roster includes Carl Cleveland (Banks), Jasper Gibson (Dawson), Pierson Allison (Union), and Jacob Radaker (Jefferson).

The girls’ roster contains Laken Stiles (Rabun), Heather Vaughan (Banks), Bentley Cronic (White), and Sophia D’Oliveira & Marlie Townley (Dawson).


The event takes place on Friday and Saturday, March 15-16 at Gainesville High School. The junior games are on March 15, with the Classic games on March 16. The event includes a Skills Challenge, 3-Point Shootout, and a Slam Dunk competition. The charge to attend is $8 for adults, $5 for students, and FREE for kids five and under.

North Ga Elite provides AAU Travel teams, training, clinics, and camps to basketball players throughout Northeast Georgia. North Ga Elite was developed in an effort to bring high level training to dedicated and driven basketball players pursuing a career in basketball. All of our athletes receive professional level training with a purpose of preparing them for their next stage of competition. Whether it is a middle schooler hoping to make his high school team, or a college senior preparing for a professional career playing basketball, North Ga Elite is regarded as a premier academy in basketball development.


Adrian Penland is a native of Hall County. Coach Penland is also an alum of West Hall High School where he played point guard for the Spartan basketball team. Among his many accolades at West Hall were: two MVP awards, a spot on the All-State Team, All-Tournament recognition, and breaking the record for the most points scored during a single game (45- a record which he still presently holds).

Upon graduation, Coach Penland continued his achievements with an athletic scholarship to Wentworth Military Academy earning two-time 1st- Team All-Conference Player, two-time team MVP, and two-time team leading scorer. He also made the prestigious Ball Star Top 40 JuCo Player list.

Following two successful years at Wentworth, Coach Penland decided to continue his collegiate career at Lander University in Greenwood, SC. At Lander, Coach Penland became a two year member of the All Peach Belt Conference team and a two time team MVP. In 2002, he was the second leading scorer in The Peach Belt Conference (averaging an outstanding 19.5 points per game) and in 2003 he improved to become the number one scorer in the Peach Belt Conference (averaging 22.5 ppg). Coach Penland also led the University team to the Elite 8 in division play.

After four years of competition at the collegiate level, Coach Penland decided to extend his pursuit of basketball to the professional arena. His skills and experience enabled him to play overseas for the next seven years in Latvia, Cyprus, Poland, Greece, Germany, Venezuela, China, Finland, Qatar, and Israel. He also had the opportunity to play in the

USBL and WBA summer leagues. During his pro career, he collected three All Star awards and was the leading scorer twice. Throughout his professional career, Coach Penland’s efforts were rewarded as he earned several honorable mentions and continued to garner attention via the sports pages in several different countries as two of the teams he played on won League Championships.

Since returning to the US, Coach Penland has begun to use the skills and knowledge obtained through his experiences to teach younger players how to not only be successful in basketball, but also how to be successful in life. Coach Penland founded of the Achieving Dreams Foundation a Non-Profit Organization helping kids, founded of the North Georgia Elite and founded of the Adrian Penland Basketball, http://www.adrianpenlandbasketball.com works as a lead trainer for Peach State Basketball where he has been afforded the opportunity to train some of the best collegiate prospects in the nation thanks to Brandon Clay and the Peach State Family.

Despite his decorated career as a basketball player, Coach Penland returned and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in History from Lander University in 2017. Adrian prides himself on the fact that his greatest two achievements in life were marrying his wife, Jewel, and together raising their precious daughters, Aiden and Emmerson.
