As the regular season comes to a close, with many teams already head first into region tournament play, we release our official Power Rankings for October.

SB Power Rankings October

#1 JEFFERSON LADY DRAGONS

RECORD: 19-5
PREVIOUS RANKING: #2
REASON(S): The Lady Dragons, who won the region 8-AAA regular season title, move into the top spot because they took down former #1 Banks County, and have a very balanced club with 149 runs scored and 66 allowed.

#2 BANKS CO LADY LEOPARDS

RECORD: 19-5
PREVIOUS RANKING: #1
REASON(S): The Lady Leopards only move behind Jefferson because of the head-to-head matchup. They finished third in the regular season in region. They are essentially right there with the Lady Dragons with a very similar balanced team that has 166 runs scored and only 47 allowed. It’s the most elite pitching/defense among all of our local programs.

#3 STEPHENS CO LADY INDIANS

RECORD: 14-8
PREVIOUS RANKING: #6
REASON(S): Look who’s back! After sliding to #6 in our last rankings, the Lady Indians are playing like we know they’re capable of. The 68 runs allowed is the third best among our locals, and the offense has moments that proves it can score runs (108 total).

#4 COMMERCE LADY TIGERS

RECORD: 17-5
PREVIOUS RANKING: #8
REASON(S): Commerce has completely flipped the script. At our last Power Rankings release, we had the Lady Tigers at #8 with a 5-5 mark. Now they’ve put together 12 straight wins and even topped Banks County once (split the two games). The offense is the best statistically among our locals with 210 runs scored against just 77 allowed.

#5 LUMPKIN CO LADY INDIANS

RECORD: 18-6
PREVIOUS RANKING: #3
REASON(S): The Lady Indians are region runner-up in 7-AAA in the regular season, and have scored a ridiculous 183 runs. The 113 runs allowed could be better, but they have the pitching depth, defense and lineup to really make a splash in a few weeks!

#6 UNION CO LADY PANTHERS

RECORD: 15-11
PREVIOUS RANKING: #5
REASON(S): Union has clinched state once again, and have beaten such teams in our coverage area like Habersham, Dawson (twice), Towns (twice), Lumpkin and Rabun. It has also fallen to Habersham, Lumpkin and Banks. Union has 174 runs which is awesome, but the 134 allowed leaves it susceptible to being exposed at times.

#7 WHITE CO LADY WARRIORS

RECORD: 13-8
PREVIOUS RANKING: #7
REASON(S): The Lady Warriors continue to put up good numbers with 139 runs, but have allowed 117. The perplexing loss came to a three-win Rabun County team, but they’ve had great wins over Dawson and Lumpkin, as well as a separate win over Rabun.

#8 HABERSHAM CENTRAL LADY RAIDERS

RECORD: 10-12
PREVIOUS RANKING: #4
REASON(S): The Lady Raiders hit the grind of a difficult 8-AAAAAA region. The offense has 107 runs, but a good percentage of that came earlier in the season. The pitching has been pretty good as of late, but there have been some low-scoring losses taken in there.

#9 DAWSON CO LADY TIGERS

RECORD: 9-12
PREVIOUS RANKING: #9
REASON(S): The Lady Tigers have allowed 113 runs compared to 101 scored, so it matches up with their overall record. This team has the ability to upset any though when they put together a complete game of balanced offense and pitching/defense.

#10 RABUN CO LADY WILDCATS

RECORD: 3-16
PREVIOUS RANKING: #10
REASON(S): It’s now a 10-game losing streak for a team that once lost 21 in a row. To be fair though, a few were forfeit losses. The team has 84 runs scored and has allowed 147 this year.

#11 TOWNS CO LADY INDIANS

RECORD: 5-14
PREVIOUS RANKING: #11
REASON(S): The Lady Indians earned a couple of forfeit wins, but their 74-run output is the lowest among our locals and the 201 allowed is the most among our area as well.
