For Habersham and head coach Benji Harrison, 2017 was a season that saw the Raiders drop half a dozen heartbreakers. In the 2-8 season, seven of the losses were by a combined 25 points, including an 80-yard hail mary TD by Gainesville that led to a crushing loss on the road. The 2017 Raiders go down in history as one of the unluckiest teams we’ve ever seen, as the 2-8 team was talented enough to go 8-2 and make a deep playoff run.

Senior QB AJ Curry moves on to Western Carolina, and the exodus of talented players includes the likes of Jim Barnett, Baylor Hinshaw, Garrett Kinsey, Carson Moore, Carson Taylor, Bryce Tanner, Karl Fail, Trey Wetherton and others. Gone also are Andrew Lovell and Zach Ferguson, who will be at Rabun County. However, former Gainesville QB Tre Luttrell will be taking over under center, coming over with his dad, former Chestatee head football coach and Buford and Gainesville assistant Stan Luttrell.

Tre Luttrell will provide plenty of athleticism at the QB position, and will utilize returning receiver Donovan (Donnie) Curry, RB Daniel Matkovic and Tarin Westbrook. The defense will need to undergo a major re-tooling for Habersham, but expect to see the Raiders fight for a playoff run in 2018.
