Our Prediction: We saw this matchup last season at Rabun County, a 55-20 Wildcat victory…The Cats are even better this season, so we shouldn’t see anything less than a 25-30 point win. A victory puts Rabun back in the quarterfinals for the third straight season. With Bailey Fisher having an historic season and Austin Jones (1,038 all-purpose yards) emerging as one of the state’s top players, it’s THE year for the Cats!

SWEET 16 MATCHUPS

#1 RABUN COUNTY (11-0; 6-0) vs #2 BEST (6-5; 4-2)

See Below for Game of the Week Preview

#2 DAWSON COUNTY (8-3; 5-1) @ #1 CEDAR GROVE (11-0; 7-0)

Coey Watson, Sevaughn Clark and the Tigers are fresh off a dominating win over Hart County at home, but now must take on the role of David and Goliath. Cedar Grove isn’t just a #1-seed in their quarter of the bracket, the Saints are also #1 in the state in 3A football, just ahead of GAC, who took down Dawson with relative ease in Atlanta for the 7-AAA title. Cedar Grove is the full package – 48 points on average per game vs just 6 per game allowed. It’ll be a VERY tough task for Dawson County and Watson on the road against easily one of the best teams in the entire state. Interesting stat: Dawson is 0-30 all-time against teams ranked in their classification. The Tigers are 24-10 in the past three seasons under Sid Maxwell, the best run in school history.

#6 COMMERCE (8-2; 7-2) vs #11 CHARLTON COUNTY (8-2; 5-2)

The Tigers got a week off with the first-round bye, and now take on Charlton County at home in Commerce. The Indians had a thrilling  49-46 win over Montgomery County in the opening round, so they’ll ride that momentum into the game against the Tigers. The winner punches a ticket to the quarterfinals. For the Tigers, it’s hard to stop them as they evenly distribute the ball to so many playmakers that you can’t pick just one to try and stop.

Here’s everything you need to know for our Game of the Week:

TIME: 7:30 pm kickoff
PLACE: Frank Synder Memorial Stadium (Rabun County High School / Tiger, GA)
LAST MEETING: Rabun County won 55-20 in 2016 in the opening round of state
ALL-TIME RECORD: Rabun 1, BEST 0
RECORDS: Rabun County (11-0; 6-0 Region 8-AA); BEST Academy (6-5; 4-2 Region 6-AA)

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

We saw this exact matchup almost a year ago to the date, as the Wildcats took down BEST in the opening round of the 2A State Playoffs in Tiger. It was a chilly night, and Bailey Fisher and Cal Drummond took it to the Eagles, coming out on top 55-20. BEST got off to a quick start, but appeared to be gassed by late in the second quarter. This marks only the second matchup between the two programs.
