The Union County Panthers (4-4; 0-4 7-AAA) had won the first four games of the season, but entered Week 8 in serious need of a win at North Hall (3-5; 3-1 7-AAA). And while the Panthers had never lost to North Hall (4-0 all time), that changed Friday night, when the Trojans ran at will en route to a high-scoring 55-34 ball game.
North Hall used almost the first six minutes of the game before finally punching in a one-yard Drew Faulkner touchdown on fourth and goal. Union responded with a Cole Wright 9-yard touchdown run to tie the game.
Not known for passing, North Hall mixed in a few passes, including a huge gainer from David Seavy to Daniel Jackson to get inside the ten yard line. On the next play, Seavy found senior Noah Holman to give the Trojans a 14-7 lead. That was stretched to 20-7 after a 42-yard touchdown run in the second quarter by Jackson (extra point missed).
The Panthers calmly retaliated when Wright found Austin Pattee on a beautiful fade pass in the end zone, secured by a sensational catch by Pattee. After the defense forced a North Hall punt, Wright immediately went long distance to a streaking Sawyer Drake up the middle, which resulted in a 60-yard touchdown. The extra point was no good, leaving the game tied at 20.
The Trojans took momentum and the lead back with a 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Jackson. Faulkner then notched a touchdown run just before the break to give North Hall a sizable 34-20 lead, as they went on to win 55-34.
