Commerce girls third, Towns boys fourth after day one on the links

The Commerce girls golf team sits in third place in the GHSA 1A Public State Tournament after one day of action. The team shot +27 on the day, six strokes behind second-place Gordon Lee and 15 behind leaders Lake Oconee Academy.

McKenzie McRee shot at 83 (+11), tying her for third through one round. Kristin Tash (88) and Cameron Ford (90) are 7th and 8th, respectively for Commerce. Autumn Mathis (102) is tied for 9th.

The Towns County boys shot 339 overall, putting them tied for fourth at 51 over. Gordon Lee leads the boys field with a 24-over 312. The Commerce boys, meanwhile, are 9th with an 84-over 372.

Towns County’s Chase Williams shot a solid 7-over 79, putting him in 9th place individually after one round. Commerce is being led so far by Josh Campbell (14th; 10-over 82).
