Each week throughout the school year, we recognize the teams who we feel stood out the most. Teams of the Week are presented by Cofield Outdoors!

FOOTBALL – COMMERCE TIGERS

We saw it in person…the Tigers look to be worthy of all the preseason hype. Elite athletes – check. Stingy defense – check. Great coaching staff – double check. Commerce won 54-3 over White County at home in the final tune-up, and honestly they could have played better while shaking off a bit of rust along the way. That’s the scary part – that wasn’t even the best they can play, and they still dominated start to finish.

SOFTBALL – FRANKLIN COUNTY LADY LIONS

The Lady Lions won all three of their games this week, beating White County 8-2, Commerce 15-12, and Lake Oconee Academy 5-3. That’s a total score of 28-17, doing whatever was needed to grab the dubs. That puts Franklin County at 5-2 overall on the campaign.

VOLLEYBALL – LUMPKIN COUNTY LADY INDIANS

Lumpkin County is riding a 4-game win streak, as the Lady Indians last week beat Johnson, East Hall, Habersham Central, and Dawson County, every single one in straight sets. Habersham and Dawson are huge wins for this program, which is now 8-2 overall.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY – TALLULAH FALLS LADY INDIANS

Tallulah Falls opened its season with a 2nd-place finish at the Northeast GA Championships in Athens. Olivia Henderson ran to a 3rd-place finish, while Ida Patterson and Avery Keim were the rest of the top-3 for TFS.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY – WHITE COUNTY WARRIORS

White County placed 4th at the Northeast GA Championships in the ‘Large School’ division. Reid Murphy was outstanding with a 5th-place finish at 18:07. Konnor Sosebee and Will McSpadden were also in the top-25.
