The BLITZ Baseball Players of the Week were named by BLITZ as Cayden Lord (Commerce) along with Towns County’s trio Connor Chastain, Zane Floyd, and Kade McConnell.

CAYDEN LORD – COMMERCE

In Commerce’s first-round win of the state playoffs, senior Cayden Lord was outstanding. The pitcher hit .500, going 3-for-6 at the plate and driving in 3 runs while swiping a base. On the hill, he was 1-0 with a perfect 0.00 ERA and 6 strikeouts across 7 innings, walking just 3 batters. This is Lord’s second POW award of his career.

CONNOR CHASTAIN – TOWNS COUNTY

Towns County junior Connor Chastain batted .571 in the first round win for the Indians. The catcher was 4-for-7, posting 4 RBI, a double, and drawing 2 walks. This is his second POW award of the season and third of his career.

ZANE FLOYD – TOWNS COUNTY

Zane Floyd came up clutch for the Indians as well. The junior pitcher and second baseman was 4-for-6 at the dish (.667 AVG), had 2 RBI, 7 runs score, 4 walks, and 5 stolen bases. He also got a win on the mound while working a 1.00 ERA, striking out 10 batters and allowing no walks and just 4 hits in 6 innings of work. This is Floyd’s fourth career POW award.

KADE MCCONNELL – TOWNS COUNTY

Kade McConnell earns his second POW award this season after the first round state playoff win for Towns County. Across the 2-game sweep, the junior pitcher and first baseman batted .625 by going 5-for-8. He had 2 RBI and 2 walks. The pitched 5 innings to earn a win, posting a perfect 0.00 ERA while striking out 6 against 2 hits and 3 walks.
