Lumpkin, Tallulah, Dawson compete in Area 6 Championship

Recently, six team gathered together for the Area 6 Precision Rifle Championship to determine seeding in the upcoming GHSA State Championships.

Lumpkin County, Tallulah Falls, North Gwinnett, Buford, Parkview, and Dawson County were the teams that advanced to this round, after the sub-area matches the previous week.

Lumpkin came into the match as the favorite, after an undefeated regular season and a school record performance the previous week in the Area playoffs. Tallulah Falls was looking to avenge its only loss of the season which was to Lumpkin, and they too were coming off of a school record performance in the Area playoff the previous week.

The 6 teams drew names to determine in which relay they would shoot, as the range can only accommodate two teams shooting at a time. Tallulah Falls and Buford drew the first relay. TFS finished with an 1146 with Buford coming in at 1122 (their season best score). Tallulah Falls sophomores Leah Rogers (288) and Kylee Loudermilk (287) put up season-best scores to lead the team.

The next relay was North Gwinnett and Dawson County. NG pulled off an 1124 win over Dawson (1081). Dawson’s top shooter, Madelyn Lee, scored 289, setting the top mark for the match at that point.

This left the final relay for Lumpkin and Parkview. Lumpkin fired an 1152 to secure the Championship, with Parkview shooting 1095, which was its season-high score. Lumpkin County shooters Liv Lusky and Maddy Moyer tied for the best individual score of the match with a 295.

The tiebreaker went to Lusky, where she edged out Moyer with 23 inner 10’s to Moyer’s 21, with Lusky having her best individual performance of the season.

These 6 teams will all compete in the first round of the GHSA playoffs this coming week. Good luck to all teams!
