Lady Indians return to title game with blowout of Calvary Day

The Lumpkin County Lady Indians returned to the Class 3A State Championship with a Final 4 win on Friday evening over #8-ranked Calvary Day, 78-31.

It was never really close, as #2 Lumpkin County (26-4) took a 14-5 first quarter lead and ran away in the second quarter. The Lady Indians were up 46-11 at the break after a 32-6 second period. Calvary Day (24-7) couldn’t get back at all, as Lumpkin again poured it on in the third, taking a commanding 66-14 lead into the final quarter.

Once there with a mercy-rule, 6-minute clock, Lumpkin ran out the final minutes to get back to the title game. Averie Jones led the offense with 21 points, as Mary Mullinax and Lexi Pierce both added 18 apiece. Kate Jackson was also in double figures with 12 points.
With Hebron Christian beating Wesleyan on the other side, the matchup is set for next week’s State Championship in Macon between Lumpkin and Hebron.
