Pitch Preview: Rabun County Wildcats

The Wildcats advanced to the Sweet 16 a year ago, finishing with 8 wins. That total was more than the boys team had in at least a decade. With Brad Holcombe taking over the boys program (he’s led the girls for the past 3 seasons), Rabun County hopes to be a factor in the new Region 8-A DI.
HEAD COACH: Brad Holcombe (1st Season)
2022 RECORD: 8-6; Region 8-AA Runner-Up; 2A State Sweet 16
RETURNING STARTERS: 7
KEY DEPARTURES: Juanes Martinez, Carson Bercerra, Diago Garcia, Cesar Armenta, Francisco “Paco” Balderas
KEY PLAYERS: Ezequiel Ramos-Rios, Edgar Ortiz, Irving Ortiz, Fernando Vargas, Mosies Figueroa, Rodolfo Ramos, Luis Lopez
STRENGTHS: Rabun has leadership and some good young boys coming in this year. Three returning crew have experience in the playoffs and know what it takes to make a run.

Cesar Armenta averaged 10 saves per game and posted 4 shutouts last season, so someone will have to obviously step up at keeper. Captain Diego Garcia is also gone, as is Juanes Martinez (12 G, 4 A). That leaves Ezequiel Ramos-Rios as the go-to option early. The senior had 8 goals and 4 assists last year. Other players will be relied on to up their game and fill in the production that was lost from last year’s roster.
The goal for this team is to win region and host playoffs, according to coaches. To Keep building and get stronger is how they plan to attain that goal.
