Pitch Preview: Dawson County Lady Tigers

The Dawson County Lady Tigers set out in 2023 to get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2019, and the key to it all is the depth coach Chess Hamby hasn’t had before since taking over the program in 2018.

HEAD COACH: Chess Hamby (4th Season)
2022 RECORD: 4-8-3; No Playoffs
RETURNING STARTERS: 6
KEY DEPARTURES: Kenna LeBaron
KEY PLAYERS: Daisy Vargas Sanchez, Melodie Martin, Elena Nelson, Addison Autrey, Emma Faircloth, Chloe Wilson
STRENGTHS: “We should have much more depth than we have had in recent years,” says Hamby. “We have a very big and talented group of freshmen coming in that will add to the depth and experience that we already have.”

Dawson County is starting to feel the itch to get past the regular season and into the playoffs. 7-AAA doesn’t provide much wiggle room, but the Lady Tigers feel like this is a team that can get back into the tournament.

“Our main goal and focus this year will be to be a state playoff team,” adds Hamby. “We play in such a solid region that just getting in the playoffs gives you a chance to make a run.”
