Lumpkin County took its first region win in five tries when pulling away late on Tuesday night against visiting Dawson County. The Indians (4-14; 1-4 in 7-AAA) took the 61-47 win, using a 24-point fourth quarter to beat the Tigers (7-10; 1-3).
Both Stephen Sherrill and Cal Faulkner eclipsed 20 points in the win, though Dawson and Trey Harvey made it interesting in the third while taking a momentary lead.

Faulkner’s 3-pointer in the first got the Indians up 9-6 in what was a low-scoring opening quarter. A 12-2 Lumpkin run in the second pushed the Indians seemingly out of reach, and Sherrill beat the halftime buzzer with a jumper to make it a 25-13 lead. Sherrill had 10 points in the first half alone.
Dawson County came out of the break ready to attack, and used a 14-2 run to tie the game at 27 apiece on Caden Reed’s 3-pointer. The Tigers would momentarily take the lead on Reed’s 3-pointer play, going up 33-31. Faulkner responded with back-to-back buckets to reclaim the 35-33 lead that Lumpkin wouldn’t relinquish.
Lumpkin County scored 24 points in a fourth quarter that featured several buckets by Faulkner and Sherrill, as the final horn sounded on the 61-47 game. Faulkner scored 21, including 14 in the second half. Sherrill topped that with 22, going for 10 in the first half and 12 in the second. Hunter Cooper added 10 points, Preston Cox 6, and 2 by Cooper Scott.
The Tigers were paced by Harvey’s 19 points, and Reed came in with 12. Harvey had 17 in the second half after scoring just 2 points in the first two quarters. He had 3 triples as well. Ethan Parker had 7, Joshua Priest had 5, and Owen Walls and Sam Glover had 2 apiece.
