Hoops Preview: Stephens County Indians

The Indians faced a rebuilding year last season, winning 5 games while acclimating several players to the varsity level in a deep region. This year’s team looks to take the next step forward.
NOTE: Stephens County boys basketball did not respond to attempts for preseason info, thus a brief overview
HEAD COACH: Jeremy Hughes (4th Season)
2021-22 RECORD: 5-20, Region 8-AAA 5th Place
RETURNING STARTERS: Corey Richie, Cam Lacy, Cornelius Curry
KEY DEPARTURES: Tyrece Mackie, Kairion Morrison
KEY PLAYERS: Richie, Lacy, Curry, Jasec Smith, Andrew Keown, AJ Russell, Devin Cobb, Anthony Harrison
OFFENSE: N/A
STRENGTHS: Experience. This team has played a lot of ball together and have learned from last year’s trials, and will be stronger for it.
BIGGEST CHALLENGES: A deep region once again, as Hart County, Franklin County, Oconee County, and Monroe Area were all playoff programs a year ago.

Point blank, the Indians went 5-20 overall, winning a pair of region games. With a young group getting their feet wet at the varsity level, it’s easy to see how this team should contend much more with the 8-AAA field. Should the team include the likes of big-time football standouts Cam Lacy and Corey Richie, those guys will be tremendous to the lineup.
