Hoops Preview: Dawson County Tigers

Dawson County is anxious to turn the page from what was a rebuilding year due to a monster roster turnover. A young, inexperienced team learned on the job, and showed flashes of what they are capable of. A whole year later, Dawson is still young, but will be much more consistent in a tough region 7-AAA.
HEAD COACH: Todd Cottrell (3rd Season)
2021-22 RECORD: 6-20, Region 7-AAA 7th Place
RETURNING STARTERS: 3. Trey Harvey, Ethan Parker, Caden Reed
KEY DEPARTURES: F Luke Mulberry, F Lane Perry, G Jackson Binkley, F Tristan Talley, G Zach Holtzclaw
KEY PLAYERS: Trey Harvey, Ethan Parker, Caden Reed, Joshua Priest, Bailey Swafford
OFFENSE: “We hope to play a fast and uptempo style of offense,” adds Cottrell.
STRENGTHS: “Leadership from returning players, who gained valuable experience last season,” says Cottrell.
BIGGEST CHALLENGES: Continued growth and development, depth

Point blank, the Tigers will be better than they were a season ago. With a fully reloaded team, there were growing pains associated with many guys getting their first varsity minutes. Dawson will have 3 returning starters, and Harvey, Parker, and Reed all will be the ones that others will look to for leadership. The hope is that the Tigers get back to the playoffs after missing last year for the first time since 2015-16.
“We hope to continue to improve over the season to be very competitive in our region tournament,” says Cottrell on the team’s goals and expectations.
