Dragons’ firepower too much for stingy St. Pius [VIDEO]

The Dragons outlasted a stingy St. Pius defense in a soggy Week Three matchup, earning a 23-0 shutout win. Jefferson, ranked #5 in Class 5A, used a late second quarter TD to go up 10-0, and added a pair of scores in the fourth to put the game away.

It was a Sammy Brown clinic, as the junior 5-star recruit scored a TD, rattled off multiple big runs, played well in the passing game, and had the hit stick on defense.

The first drive of the game included three big runs for Brown, and the Dragons settled for a 27-yd field goal by Owen Botts. Despite another drive getting to the red zone, penalties took Jefferson out of scoring range later in the half. Neither team got much going until Jefferson polished off its final drive of the second with a TD. Max Aldridge reeled off a huge run to set up a 22-yd TD throw in the corner of the end zone to Elijah Dewitt with just 30 seconds to go in the half.

The 10-0 lead held until the fourth, when Brown scored from 4 yards out following a Bowman Horn interception to get to the 7-yard line. Shontez Porter added a 20-yd TD to cap the scoring in the 23-0 final.

The Dragons are now 2-1 after back-to-back wins, while St. Pius X moves to 1-2 overall. It marked the second straight shutout for St. Pius, who fell 9-0 to Flowery Branch in Week Two. The Golden Lions were just outside the top 10 in the state polls after being in the first two weeks.
