Kyler Robbins has been consistent throughout his career for Union County. This season saw him notch 21 goals and 12 assists, good for 54 points. He was the glue that held together a Panthers team that went 15-3-1 overall in 2022 and won a region championship while advancing to the Elite 8.
Voting included our 17-person panel made up of sports reporters, writers, video producers, former coaches, players, GHSA officials, and sports experts. The voting is Heisman-style, with the following points system:
1st place votes: 5 pts; 2nd: 3 pts; 3rd: 2 pts; 4th: 1 pts; 5th-6th: 0.5 pts; 7th-8th 0.25 pts
Kyler Robbins edged out Lane Lallement for the POY honors. Robbins had nine 1st-place votes against Lallement’s eight. Those two took all 1st-place votes.
Robbins takes the win to become the third Union County player to win it and the first since 2019 (Brian Smith). Robbins is the first midfielder since former Union great Vincent Thomas won it in 2011. Also, Robbins’ win marks the fifth straight senior to win it, which means in 2023 we will see a sixth consecutive new winner.
