Jack Rowe was quite the surprise in 2022. On a team with Smith Caudell, a senior who won Golfer of the Year a couple of years ago, it was clear the Raiders would be a force to be reckoned with. However, not many thought Rowe would be the Area Champion and a top-5 golfer in one of the highest classifications in the state of Georgia. Still just a sophomore, your mind can imagine the possibilities of the future success of this young man.
He carded a 35.8 average in 9-hole events, and a 71.4 18-hole average. In the area tournament, Rowe had a 1-under 71 to lead the pack. At state, he had a first round score of 72, and followed it with a 73 in the second round to lift Habersham to 9th overall.
Voting included our 17-person panel made up of sports reporters, writers, video producers, former coaches, players, GHSA officials, and sports experts. The voting is Heisman-style, with the following points system:
1st place votes: 5 pts; 2nd: 3 pts; 3rd: 2 pts; 4th: 1 pts; 5th-6th: 0.5 pts; 7th-8th 0.25 pts
Jack Rowe earned this one over a LOADED field of very talented golfers. He had nine 1st-place votes, while Tanner Bronnum had five, and Garrett Horton and Alex Hughes one each.
Jack Rowe becomes the third Habersham Central golfer to claim the award, as fellow teammate and finalist Smith Caudell won it a couple of years ago. Caudell was a sophomore when he won it, and now Rowe is only the second sophomore to win it.
