State Playoff Sweet 16 – Thursday Results

11 teams locally were alive in the Sweet 16. Game results will be updated below for each of the Sweet 16 matchups. After all girls games have been played, Union County, Jefferson, Commerce, Lumpkin County, and Towns County all have advanced to the Elite 8. Union County’s boys were the only ones to punch their way through to the quarterfinals.

FULL BRACKETS

GIRLS

#1 Union County Lady Panthers (12-3-1) 4, #2 East Laurens (11-7) 1

The Lady Panthers won 4-1 over East Laurens, as Union went up 3-0 in the first half to set the tone. Ariel McCarter scored the first goal to get the party started, as Union is back in the Elite 8 for the fourth time in the last 8 seasons.

#2 Jefferson Lady Dragons (12-3-1) 2, #1 Columbus (11-7-1) 1

The Lady Dragons edged out Columbus on the road, 2-1 to advance to the state quarterfinals.

#2 Commerce Lady Tigers (19-1) 14, #4 Montgomery County (9-7) 0

The Lady Tigers flat out destroyed Montgomery County with a 14-0 final that propels the program into the Quarterfinals for the first time, and builds on a school-record 19 wins. Commerce will take on Claxton in the Elite 8.

#2 Lumpkin County Lady Indians (16-3-1) 3, #1 Pierce County (12-2) 0

Lumpkin came up huge on the road with a 3-0 win against a team that had allowed all of 5 goals the entire season. The #4-ranked Lady Indians roll on to face Oconee County in the Elite 8 quarterfinal round.

#2 Habersham Central Lady Raiders (13-5) 1, #1 Richmond Hill (18-2) 5

The Lady Raiders played their hearts out, but fell short in a 5-1 loss at Richmond Hill, a powerhouse program who just couldn’t be contained. This ends Habersham Central’s season.

#3 Stephens County Lady Indians (8-9) 1, #1 Morgan County (12-4) 2

Stephens County nearly came up with this huge upset, but fell in a 2-1 final at Morgan County. Both sides of the ball played very well for the Lady Indians, as their season came to a close.

#3 Towns County Lady Indians (11-4) 5, #1 Treutlen (12-7) 0

The Lady Indians blanked Treutlen to reach the quarterfinals yet again. This program knows what it takes to get to the Elite 8, and had no problems on the road. Towns County will take on ACE Charter in the next round.

BOYS

#1 Union County (15-2-1) 3, #2 Woodville-Tompkins (11-7) 2

Union County survives a scare at home against Woodville-Tompkins. The Panthers scored twice early on before the visitors tied it up. Wilson Walker had the first two goals, and then MJ Delatte scored the eventual game-winner in the 54th minute to get Union into the Elite 8.

#2 Jefferson (11-6-2) 1, #1 Columbus (17-0-1) 2

The Dragons fought hard at Columbus, nearly taking down the undefeated powerhouse program. After Jefferson equalized, Columbus took the lead back with 7 minutes left. This ends Jefferson’s season.

#2 Rabun County (7-6) 0, #1 Toombs County (13-4-2) 2

The Wildcats dropped a 2-0 final at Toombs County, closing the season in the Sweet 16.
