Dyer, Horner take Baseball POW awards

The BLITZ Baseball Player of the Week fan vote collected 24,414 total votes. The top vote-getter was Union County’s Thomas Dyer with 10,118. BLITZ then chose Dawson County’s Julian Horner as Co-POW.

Thomas Dyer himself a time last week. The senior outfielder went 6-for-10 at the dish, and peppered the ball all over the yard. He hit .600, adding 9 RBI, 6 runs, 2 doubles, and 2 triples for Union County, earning his first POW award.

This is crazy, and you probably won’t believe it. But sophomore Julian Horner in 2 games for Dawson County did something unthinkable when, in one of the games, he hit back-to-back Grand Slams. Two straight plate appearances with a Grand Slam! He was then plunked 3 TIMES after that. For the week, he hit .500 (3-for-6) with 2 HR, 8 RBI, 3 HBP, and 2 BB. This is Horner’s first POW award.
