Final 4 Recap: Lumpkin County secures title game appearance


On the first night of the Final Four games, Rabun County’s girls cruised to the 2A State Championship. Lumpkin did the same on Saturday afternoon, while Commerce fell in a tough semifinal game.
#1 Lumpkin County Lady Indians 64 #1 Westminster 42
The Lady Indians made no doubt about it, taking a 22-point win over Westminster to get into the state championship game for Class 3A. Lexi Pierce led all scorers with 20, adding 4 rebounds. Mary Mullinax had 16 points and 7 boards, while Averie Jones (14 pts) and Kate Jackson (14 pts, 10 reb) all played significantly well. Lumpkin held a 17-point lead at the break, and never were in jeopardy.
#1 Rabun County Lady Wildcats 50, #1 Northeast 39
The Lady Cats are back in the title game for the second time in the last 6 years after a 50-39 win over Northeast. Rabun County took control early, leading 19-4 after just one quarter. That lead stayed true, and Rabun held a 27-14 lead into the break. The lead lessened a bit to an 11-point advantage at 37-26 going into the final quarter, and the Lady Wildcats held off Northeast the rest of the way.
#1 Hancock Central 50, #2 Commerce Lady Tigers 37
The Lady Tigers saw their Cinderella run end in Valdosta in a 50-35 loss to Hancock Central. For Commerce, it held in there very well through the first half, which was a low-scoring 21-18 game at the break in favor of HC. This ends Commerce’s season.
