Lightsey, Kennedy earn ‘Last Finalist’ fan votes for Wrestler of the Year

After we took our initial Wrestler of the Year Nominees down to a finalist pool of 5 for the boys and 3 for the girls, we then put several nominees up for a public vote to let the public pick the ‘Last Finalist.’ After the boys’ poll tallied 33,821 votes, it was White County’s Davin Lightsey who won with 13,069. He joins the boys finalist group. The girls’ poll racked up 6,301 votes, and Union’s Brooke Kennedy won with 2,872 to join the other 3 finalists.

Next up, the BLITZ internal voting panel, made of local sports reporters, former GHSA officials, and select honorary members, will vote on the finalists to determine the Boys and Girls Wrestler of the Year. The voting is done Heisman-style, and will be voted on at the conclusion of all winter sports.
