There was little drama to be found in Mt. Airy on Friday night in the Lady Raiders game. #10-ranked Habersham Central used a 20-2 second quarter to take control early on the way to a 63-26 lopsided region win over Central Gwinnett (12-8; 2-5). Taylor Wade and Kyia Barrett both topped 20 points in the win, which was Hab Central’s fourth in a row.
After a first quarter that saw the Lady Raiders (13-4; 5-2 in 8-AAAAAA) drain 3 3-pointers, it was still only a 13-8 lead heading into the second. Barrett had a pair of trays in the first as part of her big night. In the second quarter, Wade and Kelsey Banks made several shots to highlight a 14-0 Habersham run that made it a 33-10 lead going into the break. It was a 20-2 second quarter for the Lady Raiders, as Barrett and Wade both had 11 points in the first half.
Barrett had a 3-point play in the third that really ballooned the lead, as the Lady Raiders charged ahead by 29 points. In the final quarter, the lead reached as high as 39 points. Wade led all scorers with 21 points, including making a pair of triples. Barrett had 20 points and a 3-pointer. Banks finished with 12 points, all coming on her 4 3-pointers. Sataria Cantrell had 4 points, and both Lindsey Parker and Jazky Bantaum had 2 points.
