Lady Warriors hold off Habersham for fourth straight win [VIDEO]

The Lady Warriors (6-5; 3-1 in 7-AAA) held off a feisty Habersham Central squad for a 45-34 win, their fourth in a row. The #10-ranked Lady Raiders (6-3; 0-1 in 8-AAAAAA) got a game-high 15 points from Kyia Barrett, but White County used 9 different scorers to help get the victory in Cleveland on Tuesday night.

Barrett scored 8 points in the first half, and had Habersham up early in the first. The game was low-scoring in the opening quarter, as the Lady Raiders held a slim 8-6 lead heading into the second. Habersham nearly went up 11-6 when Lindsey Parker’s buzzer-beating 3-pointer was waved off as it was a tad late.

Claire Beckman’s layup in the second tied the game for White County, and a second-chance bucket by Chesnee Freeman sent the Lady Warriors ahead. Barrett tied the game moments later with a basket, but the Lady Warriors reeled off an 8-0 run to close the half, which gave White County an 18-10 cushion. Kylie Watkins’ 3-point play and Emma Lightsey’s triple highlighted the quarter.

The Lady Raiders stormed back in the opening moments of the third when Barrett got a bucket and Kelsey Banks hit a long-range 3-pointer to get it to within 18-15. Both teams found success with the 3-pointers in the third, as Hailey Wade and Taylor Wade both connected from deep for Habersham, while Zoe Burkett hit a pair of her own. The deficit remained 8 points heading into the final quarter with White County up 32-24.

In the final quarter, Barrett had back-to-back baskets to pull within 32-28, but Kendyl Cantrell’s 3-point dagger pushed the lead back up as the Lady Warriors held on to win 45-34.

Barrett led all scorers with 15 points. Banks had 6, Taylor Wade 5, Hailey Wade and Parker 3 each, and 2 for Sataria Cantrell. For White County, Freeman led with 10 points, while Burkett and Beckman both had 6 apiece. Cantrell and Watkins finished with 5 points each, Naomi Roberts and Aaliyah Anderson with 4, Lightsey with 3, and Brelan Sieveking with 2 for the Lady Warriors.
