Week Ten Power Rankings

10 weeks…that much of the season is gone. With nearly all of our programs in action, let’s see where they all settle in our Week 10 Power Rankings.

#1 » JEFFERSON

RECORD: 8-0

NEXT GAME: vs North Oconee
PREVIOUS RANKING: #1

Jefferson is still not playing at full strength. But the results are testament to the Dragons’ depth. Next up is a tough North Oconee group that will give the Dragons a good practice as they get closer to the state playoffs.

#2 » RABUN COUNTY

RECORD: 8-1
LAST GAME:
W 45-7 vs Elbert County
NEXT GAME: @ Union County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #2

Rabun County locked down an 8th straight region championship with a 45-7 win over Elbert. Gunner Stockton had 5 TDs, including 3 passing to tie the all-time state record. With a mercy running clock in effect in the second half, Stockton wasn’t really given much of a chance to break the record, as he had tied it in the first half. One final regular season game to go before a BYE week to gear up for the playoffs.

#3 » STEPHENS COUNTY

RECORD: 6-2
LAST GAME:
L 7-9 @ #4 Hart County
NEXT GAME: vs #2 Oconee County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #3

Stephens County dropped a baseball score type of game at Hart County. That means the Indians will be forced to play on the road in the state playoffs, assuming they win one of their next 2 games. It was a valiant effort by Stephens, who has been in one of the toughest regions in the entire state.

#4 » COMMERCE

RECORD: 5-3
LAST GAME:
L 19-28 vs Social Circle
NEXT GAME: vs Washington-Wilkes
PREVIOUS RANKING: #4

The Tigers’ 4-game win streak came to an end with a tough loss to Social Circle. The next 2 games are pivotal for what the playoff positioning will be for Commerce.

#5 » DAWSON COUNTY

RECORD: 4-4
LAST GAME:
L 14-21 @ #7 Cherokee Bluff
NEXT GAME: vs Lumpkin County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #5

Dawson County dropped a close one that may have determined the region title. The Tigers played very well in a tough environment, and next play Lumpkin County in an always-interesting rivalry matchup.

#6 » TOWNS COUNTY

RECORD: 4-4
LAST GAME:
L 36-63 vs Greene County
NEXT GAME: @ Social Circle
PREVIOUS RANKING: #6

Towns County took a tumble with a third straight loss. It was an offensive battle that Greene County pulled away in. The Indians now look to obtain at least one more win in their next 2 games.

#7 » HABERSHAM CENTRAL

RECORD: 3-6

W 20-0 @ Central Gwinnett
NEXT GAME: BYE
PREVIOUS RANKING: #7

Habersham Central got back in the win column after 5 straight losses. Now comes a last BYE week to prep for Shiloh in the season finale. The Raiders would love to close out the regular season with a win in what has been a tough season.

#8 » WHITE COUNTY

RECORD: 3-5

W 49-13 @ Lumpkin County
NEXT GAME: vs Gilmer
PREVIOUS RANKING: #8

White County earned a second straight win as things seem to be clicking now for the Warriors. The Gilmer game should be another win for White County, which would be crucial to a state playoff bid.

#9 » UNION COUNTY

NEXT GAME: vs #1 Rabun County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #9

Union takes on #1-ranked Rabun County in one of the best rivalries around. These two teams can’t stand each other, and the Panthers will get their shot at #1 in what likely will be a cold night in Blairsville.

#10 » BANKS COUNTY

RECORD: 2-6
LAST GAME:
W 67-7 @ Riverside
NEXT GAME: BYE
PREVIOUS RANKING: #11

Banks County gets its largest win in school history on the road at Riverside. After a well-deserved BYE week, the Leopards will look to close it out against Elbert.

#11 » LUMPKIN COUNTY

RECORD: 2-6

L 13-49 vs White County
NEXT GAME: @ Dawson County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #10

The Indians are looking to play spoiler against Dawson County, and will seek to earn another win before the season is out.
