Week Seven Power Rankings

Week Seven was full of drama. We have little movement in this week’s power rankings, nonetheless.

#1 » JEFFERSON
RECORD: 6-0
LAST GAME: W 63-0 @ East Hall
NEXT GAME: @ Cedar Shoals
PREVIOUS RANKING: #1
Jefferson continued to mop the floor with region opponents, securing a 63-0 shutout at East Hall. The most exciting part of the night was the return of Jordan Perry, who left in the season-opening win over Rabun County to a knee injury. He scored a TD. Malaki Starks didn’t play in the game for the Dragons, who travel to Cedar Shoals in Week 8.
#2 » RABUN COUNTY
RECORD: 5-1
LAST GAME: W 28-21 @ #3 Pierce County
NEXT GAME: TBD
PREVIOUS RANKING: #2
The Wildcats made a statement to the rest of the state, but solidified what we already knew – Rabun can play with anybody. Next up was SUPPOSED to be region play against Riverside, but they have canceled the matchup, leaving the Cats without an opponent for Week 8 at the moment. Rabun County might be able to land a replacement in hopefully another quality opponent prior to the region games.
#3 » STEPHENS COUNTY
RECORD: 5-1
LAST GAME: L 24-34 vs #8 Monroe Area
NEXT GAME: vs Franklin County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #3
Stephens County held a brief fourth quarter lead over Monroe Area in a game that lived up to the hype as a top-10 matchup. Overall, the Indians looked pretty good, but weren’t able to stop the Hurricane’s elusive QB. The Indians must put this one behind them quickly, as this region contains 4 ranked teams, and there’s no time to pout.

#4 » TOWNS COUNTY
RECORD: 4-2
LAST GAME: L 12-43 @ Lincoln County
NEXT GAME: vs Commerce
PREVIOUS RANKING: #4
The Indians couldn’t get much going against a high-flying Lincoln County program to open region play. Towns has a HUGE game against Commerce in Week 8. Kyle Oakes is probably just one carry away (6 yards to be exact) from a back-to-back 1,000-yard season.
#5 » COMMERCE
RECORD: 3-2
LAST GAME: W 35-7 @ Greene County
NEXT GAME: @ Towns County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #7
Commerce is roaring back after a less than stellar 1-2 start. Jaiden Daniels had a mammoth game with well over 200 yards rushing. Suddenly, he’s the team’s leading rusher with over 500 ticks. The Tigers are on to something, and a pivotal game awaits in Week 8 in Hiawassee.
#6 » DAWSON COUNTY
RECORD: 2-3
LAST GAME: BYE
NEXT GAME: @ Gilmer
PREVIOUS RANKING: #5
The Tigers had a well-earned bye week after reversing the early-season trend of going 0-3. Big wins have come over Northview, and then the pivotal victory over White County. At this point, it’s probably safe to say if Dawson can take 2 of their last 5, that should be enough to secure a playoff spot. However, all 5 are winnable games for this group.
#7 » HABERSHAM CENTRAL
RECORD: 2-4
LAST GAME: L 0-58 @ #1 Buford
NEXT GAME: vs Dacula
PREVIOUS RANKING: #6
The Raiders were held to under 100 yards of total offense, with 9 passing and 81 on the ground. Granted, it was Buford, so Habersham deserves a break on this. However, dropping to 0-2 in region play is very costly when considering playoff hopes. Four games remain, and the Raiders likely would need to win 3 of them.

#8 » WHITE COUNTY
RECORD: 1-5
LAST GAME: L 20-51 @ North Hall
NEXT GAME: @ West Hall
PREVIOUS RANKING: #8
The Warriors dropped another region game, and are now over a month since their last win. White County looked to be in a great position to win in each of the past 2 games, which makes it more frustrating. The Warriors should have yet another chance against a struggling West Hall team who’s only win is against on 0-5 Johnson program. Closing out the game has been the tough part.
#9 » LUMPKIN COUNTY
RECORD: 2-3
LAST GAME: W 32-30 vs Gilmer
NEXT GAME: vs North Hall
PREVIOUS RANKING: #10
Lumpkin continues its winning ways with its first win streak of multiple games since 2016. The Indians play a third straight home game, this time against North Hall in Week 8.
#10 » UNION COUNTY
RECORD: 1-4
LAST GAME: W 48-14 @ Riverside
NEXT GAME: vs Banks County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #11
The Panthers are in the win column for new coach Michael Perry. It came in a big way over Riverside. Union has a great opportunity here to win in Week 8 against a reeling Banks County team.
#11 » BANKS COUNTY
RECORD: 1-4
LAST GAME: BYE
NEXT GAME: @ Union County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #9
After a BYE week, the Leopards open region play when traveling to Union County. Banks is looking to take at least one out of the 4 region matchups the rest of the way. For the record, YES we know that Banks defeated Lumpkin head-to-head early in the season. However, we’re taking the full body of work into consideration, and Lumpkin is surging while Banks is seeking some type of momentum.
