Week Six Power Rankings

Week Six saw a couple of local teams like White and Dawson duke it out, which provides a little movement in our latest Power Rankings.

#1 » JEFFERSON

RECORD: 5-0
LAST GAME:
W 27-7 vs #7 Flowery Branch
NEXT GAME: @ East Hall
PREVIOUS RANKING: #1

The Dragons shut out powerhouse Flowery Branch until the final ticks on the clock. Sammy Brown and Malaki Starks were once again just ridiculous and impossible to stop. Tre Neese also had a huge game, and Jefferson may have just ALREADY clinched the region championship.

#2 » RABUN COUNTY

RECORD: 4-1
LAST GAME:
W 70-7 vs Pickens (SC)
NEXT GAME: @ #1 Pierce County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #2

The Cats were one point shy of a program record in a third straight blowout win over a solid out-of-state opponent. Rabun is playing some great ball right now, and now face their FOURTH state-ranked opposing team when traveling to defending state champions Pierce County. Long bus ride, but should be coming back happy!

#3 » STEPHENS COUNTY

RECORD: 5-0
LAST GAME:
BYE
NEXT GAME: vs #7 Monroe Area
PREVIOUS RANKING: #3

The Indians had a well-deserved BYE week after the win over Hab Central. That gave them time to plan for a HUGE region showdown with Monroe Area, a top-10 matchup that will undoubtedly shape the region playoff picture.

#4 » TOWNS COUNTY

RECORD: 4-1
LAST GAME:
W 14-11 @ Bethlehem Christian
NEXT GAME: @ Lincoln County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #4

Another BIG win for Towns County, and again on the road. That makes the Indians 3-1 on the road, and they now have 4 wins or more in a season for only the fifth time ever. Towns is definitely focused on doing much more, however.

#5 » DAWSON COUNTY

RECORD: 2-3
LAST GAME:
W 31-28 @ White County
NEXT GAME: BYE
PREVIOUS RANKING: #7

The Tigers stormed back to steal a win at White County. This is a momentum-grabbing win that makes Dawson a favorite to be in the region title mix, or at worst a state playoff contender. Bailey Dameron is having a crazy-good year with an insane streak of 100-yard games. A well-deserved BYE week is the reward for a team that has won 2 in a row and seems to be trending upward.

#6 » HABERSHAM CENTRAL

RECORD: 2-3
LAST GAME:
L 14-45 vs Winder-Barrow
NEXT GAME: @ #1 Buford
PREVIOUS RANKING: #5

The Raiders were stunned by Winder in one of the state’s most shocking upsets. The Raiders are behind the 8-ball for a playoff spot with a region loss early on, and now face off with #1 Buford on the road next week.

#7 » COMMERCE

RECORD: 2-2
LAST GAME:
W 20-13 vs Mt. Paran
NEXT GAME: @ Greene County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #8

The Tigers might be back! Being in a funk is not anything Commerce fans/players/etc are used to. Commerce switched some things up, and gave freshman standout Jaiden Daniels a real chance with 20-plus carries for 193 on the ground. He rewarded the team with a TD that proved the difference. Now the games really matter as region play begins.

#8 » WHITE COUNTY

RECORD: 1-4
LAST GAME:
L 28-31 vs Dawson County
NEXT GAME: @ North Hall
PREVIOUS RANKING: #6

It was a gut-wrenching loss for the Warriors against Dawson after going up by a pair of TDs in the fourth quarter. That said, Tripp Nix had his best game yet, Darius Cannon continues to impress (as does Silas Mulligan). Next up is a PIVOTAL game against North Hall that will very well determine if White County will make the playoffs in 2021.

#9 » BANKS COUNTY

RECORD: 1-4
LAST GAME:
L 0-56 @ #8 Haralson County
NEXT GAME: BYE
PREVIOUS RANKING: #9

Banks County moves into a BYE week after a crushing 56-0 loss on the road. The Leopards will re-evaluate themselves and get some time to plan for a big game at Union in a couple of weeks.

#10 » LUMPKIN COUNTY

RECORD: 1-3
LAST GAME:
BYE
NEXT GAME: vs Gilmer
PREVIOUS RANKING: #10

The Indians got plenty of time to celebrate their first win since 2019 with a BYE week. No Gilmer rolls into town to open up region play. It’s time to see where Lumpkin stacks up against region foes.

#11 » UNION COUNTY

RECORD: 0-4
LAST GAME:
L 24-54 vs #1 Murphy (NC)
NEXT GAME: @ Riverside
PREVIOUS RANKING: #11

Union fell to 0-4 with a tough road loss. The good news is the offense had a lot more life to it against a quality opponent. Next up is a big region opener against Riverside on the road.
