Week Five has come and gone…here’s what transpired!
The Most Dramatic – #4 Stephens County takes control in 3rd in 35-18 win over Habersham
The Biggest Blowout – #1 Rabun County 63-7 over #3 Saluda (SC)
The Biggest Upset – Lumpkin County snaps 19-game slide with 34-14 win over St. Francis
#4 Stephens County Indians 35, Habersham Central Raiders 18
The Indians used 3 TDs from Ben Stowe to Cam Lacy, the third of which took a 14-12 game into a 21-12 lead. Stowe added a rushing TD as Stephens County remained undefeated at 5-0. Stowe threw for 279 yards, while Lacy had 185 receiving and Bryson Trimier had 2 INTs. Simarcus Burney led the Raiders with 2 rushing TD. Burney had 132 rushing yards, but Habersham allowed 409 yards of offense to Stephens County. Stephens’ Javin Gordon added a late TD, and Carson Parker had a rushing TD for Habersham.
#1 Rabun County Wildcats 63, #3 Saluda (SC) Tigers 7
Another big-time win for the Cats as they ran all over a South Carolina powerhouse program. Gunner Stockton threw for 405 yards and 5 TD and added a rushing TD. Lang Windham had 2 receiving TD and a rushing TD as well. It was 49-0 until just before the break when Saluda got on the board. Cory Keller and Cesar Cruz both had scoop-n-score TDs, and Jaden Gibson finished with 146 receiving yards and a TD. Keller also had a receiving TD, as did Ethan Clarke. The Wildcat defense had 3 turnovers and allowed only 10 first downs and 219 yards of offense.
Lumpkin County Indians 34, St. Francis Knights 14
The Indians won their first game since 2019, breaking a 19-game losing skid (program record) in the process. It was all Lumpkin, as the Indians were up 27-0 at the half and took that score into the fourth. Cooper Scott connected with Harper Davenport for the first score, and Scott had another TD pass to make it 14-0. Scott’s 7-yd TD run in the second made it 20-0, and Scott connected with Andrew Adams on a 14-yd TD to push it to 27-zip. Tavion Lawrence added a 17-yd TD run late to cap the Lumpkin scoring.
Fannin County Rebels 30, Banks County Leopards 13
The Leopards had a late surge after going down 30-0, scoring both of their TDs late.
Towns County Indians 38, Lakeview Lions 17
The Indians straight up dominated in a 38-17 win over Lakeview, giving Towns its third win of the season. It was still tight at 26-17 going into the final quarter before the Indians pulled away.
Pickens Dragons 45, Union County Panthers 7
The Dragons fired past Union County by a 45-7 final, leaving the Panthers still winless on the season.
