Game Of The Week: Habersham Central vs Stephens County

Our Game of the Week is familiar…Habersham Central vs Stephens County. One of the most intense rivalry games in the area year after year.

HABERSHAM CENTRAL

The Raiders are coming off the high of a rivalry win over White County. The opposition’s talent and the rivalry’s intensity really picks up for this game. So far, sophomore QB Carson Parker is looking pretty good. Of course he has some maturing to do, but this is invaluable for Habersham to be set (barring any injury or unsuspected incidence) for three years with the same QB. It’s been a LONG time since the Raiders have had that. The defense has been solid as of late!

STEPHENS COUNTY

The Indians are 4-0 for the first time since 2012, and ranked as high as #4 in at least one poll, which is the best since 2007. Stephens County is back! But they won’t get complacent, and are only looking at tonight – a game everyone has circled. Ben Stowe and Cam’ron Lacy look to lead the charge in this epic rivalry game.

OUR PREDICTION

This game is always so much fun to cover. These teams have so much love and hate. Mostly hate, let’s be honest. BUT, so many of these kids have played with each other and against each other their whole life. Some are related, some go to church together, etc. But when kickoff time comes around, it’s all hate! Should be fantastic as always. OUR PICK: Fan Vote

This rivalry runs DEEP. In 44 all-time meetings, Stephens County OWNS it with a 31-12-1 series lead. The last time out was an Indians win in 2020 by a 27-12 final. Habersham recently broke a decades-long drought with a win in 2019, but before that it was Stephens County taking 14 in a row over 23 years. 1970 marked the first time squaring off, and was a Raider win.
