Crystal Ball: Week Five Predictions

It’s on to Week Five! Here are the matchups and our predictions that come with it.

DISCLAIMER: We dissect the numbers, check against other projections, utilize the brain and not the heart. If we pick against any of our beloved 11 programs, take it as a diss if you want, or use it as motivation. We obviously would love to see all 11 programs win every single game, so we’ll celebrate even if we’re wrong if it means our locals walk off the field as winners.

THE LOCALS (Home Games Listed First)

Habersham Central Raiders vs #4 Stephens County Indians

The Raiders play host to arch-rivals Stephens County. It’s always a game worth taking in. This time, Stephens County stands as the heavy favorites going in. Habersham is fresh off a win, while Stephens is off to a 4-0 start. VERDICT: FAN VOTE

Lumpkin County Indians vs St. Francis Knights

The Indians are looking to snap a 19-game losing streak. Being at home certainly helps, and St. Francis will be coming in also looking for its first win. One team will walk away victorious. It seems like the perfect time for Lumpkin to finally get it done. VERDICT: Lumpkin County

Banks County Leopards vs Fannin County Rebels

Banks County is fresh off its first win, taking one over Lumpkin. Now steps in Fannin, and it marks the return of former Banks head coach Chad Cheatham. Fannin has an offense that packs about 17.5 points per game, so it’s not overwhelming. However, the program wins (3-1) and looks similar to last year’s 10-win, quarterfinal team. VERDICT: Fannin County

Towns County Indians vs Lakeview Lions

Kyle Oakes ran the ball last week like he was being chased by something. If he runs like that, this team can reel off more wins. Lakeview represents a very well-coached Lee Shaw team. The results in wins and losses hasn’t exactly come yet for the Lions, but they are fresh off a victory also. VERDICT: Lakeview barely

#1 Rabun County @ #3 Saluda (SC) Tigers

Rabun went to #1-ranked Murphy (NC) and beat the defending state champs like a drum. Now they’re going to South Carolina to try and do the same to a team that won it all in 2019. It’s a #3-ranked team that may have the home field advantage, but we think it’s clear there’s a difference between football in Georgia versus football in any other state. VERDICT: Rabun County

Union County Panthers @ Pickens Dragons

The Panthers are seeking win number one. That could come at Pickens, where the Dragons are 1-2 and have beaten the likes of Commerce and lost to White County. With a week to rest up, we’ll take the road team. VERDICT: Union County

#1 Jefferson, Dawson County, White County, Commerce
