Week Four Power Rankings

One-third of the regular season is now behind us. Here are the latest BLITZ Power Rankings.

#1 » JEFFERSON

RECORD: 4-0
LAST GAME:
W 41-14 @ Mountain View
NEXT GAME: BYE
PREVIOUS RANKING: #1

The Dragons traveled to a 7A school and took a very convincing win to say the least. Once again, Jefferson scored on nearly every possession. A well-deserved bye week awaits prior to the huge matchup coming with Flowery Branch.

#2 » RABUN COUNTY

RECORD: 2-1
LAST GAME:
W 59-14 @ #1 Murphy (NC)
NEXT GAME: @ Saluda (SC)
PREVIOUS RANKING: #2

Rabun County traveled to #1-ranked Murphy (NC), and smashed the defending state champions. There’s no doubt what the Wildcats have. Now, the Cats replaced their original bye week with a road game at Saluda (SC), who were the 2019 state champs in South Carolina.

#3 » STEPHENS COUNTY

RECORD: 4-0
LAST GAME:
W 19-14 @ Madison County
NEXT GAME: @ Habersham Central
PREVIOUS RANKING: #3

The Indians earned a thrilling, come-from-behind victory over Madison County to stay unbeaten and go 4-0 for the first time since 2012. Key players are making key plays at the right time. Next up, the game they all have highlighted…Habersham Central!

#4 » HABERSHAM CENTRAL

RECORD: 2-1
LAST GAME:
W 21-12 @ White County
NEXT GAME: vs #5 Stephens County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #4

The Raiders hold serve at #4 in our Power Rankings after a convincing 21-12 win over White County. The defense is more impressive right now than the offense is, but there’s a lot to like about the trio of Carson Parker, Zeke Whittington, and Simarcus Burney.

#5 » TOWNS COUNTY

RECORD: 2-1
LAST GAME:
W 48-20 @ Baconton Charter
NEXT GAME: vs Lakeview
PREVIOUS RANKING: #7

Towns County crushed Baconton Charter behind a 247-yard performance by Kyle Oakes in which the senior rushed for 5 TDs. Lakeview will be a much tougher task, as it’s a coach Lee Shaw team. This will be a great litmus test for the Indians.

#6 » WHITE COUNTY

RECORD: 1-3
LAST GAME:
L 12-21 vs Habersham Central
NEXT GAME: BYE
PREVIOUS RANKING: #5

The Warriors get a bye week finally after a grueling 1-3 stretch to open the season. The offense relies so heavily on Silas Mulligan and Darius Cannon, because the team as a whole is young. The defense has many quality pieces, so maybe more success comes within region play.

#7 » DAWSON COUNTY

RECORD: 1-3
LAST GAME:
W 52-7 vs Northview
NEXT GAME: BYE
PREVIOUS RANKING: #8

The Tigers got a win in a big way with a blowout victory against Northview. That’s perfect for going into a bye week, where Dawson can work on prepping for the much-anticipated matchup with White County to open region play.

#8 » COMMERCE

RECORD: 1-2
LAST GAME:
L 14-27 @ Elbert County
NEXT GAME: BYE
PREVIOUS RANKING: #6

Commerce fell at the Granite Bowl. There was a bit more offense, but overall it’s perplexing the start the Tigers have gotten off to this season. Work to be done for the next part of the schedule.

#9 » BANKS COUNTY

RECORD: 1-2
LAST GAME:
W 26-16 vs Lumpkin County
NEXT GAME: vs Fannin County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #10

Banks County finally got on the board. Not just with a win, but with 26 points, after scoring zero in the first two games combined. Fannin will be a much more difficult opponent, but riding the high of their first win helps give the team some confidence.

#10 » UNION COUNTY

RECORD: 0-2
LAST GAME:
BYE
NEXT GAME: @ Pickens
PREVIOUS RANKING: #9

Union got a bye week after falling to 0-2. Pickens is a step up from the previous opponent, Chestatee, so it won’t be easy. Logan Helcher looks to be on the verge though of guiding this team to some wins.

#11 » LUMPKIN COUNTY

RECORD: 0-3
LAST GAME:
L 16-26 @ Banks County
NEXT GAME: vs St. Francis
PREVIOUS RANKING: #11

Lumpkin is now at 19 consecutive losses, a program high. The Indians will look to break out of that one of these days soon.
