Crystal Ball: Week Four Predictions

Week Four is here. When Week 4 concludes, we’ll be 1/3 through the season. Here are our predictions, sure to be wrong (although we’re hitting on 80% this season).

DISCLAIMER: We dissect the numbers, check against other projections, utilize the brain and not the heart. If we pick against any of our beloved 11 programs, take it as a diss if you want, or use it as motivation. We obviously would love to see all 11 programs win every single game, so we’ll celebrate even if we’re wrong if it means our locals walk off the field as winners.

THE LOCALS (Home Games Listed First)

White County Warriors vs Habersham Central Raiders

White County got a momentum-altering win over Pickens, and now take that into a home matchup against the Raiders. Habersham is also coming off a win in Week Two and were on a bye in Week Three. Should be a great one, as usual, between the local rivals. VERDICT: FAN VOTE

Banks County Leopards vs Lumpkin County Indians

Both teams are winless. That means no matter what, one of our local programs will win their first game in quite some time. That adds to the hype around this one. Banks County has zero points in two games, while Lumpkin has scored late in each of its two games. Last season when the same thing played out, Banks County took a 37-0 win for the Leopards’ sole win of the 2020 season. Right now, Lumpkin looks better, but Banks is at home and after last year’s blowout win, it’s hard to pick against them in this one. That said, it’s really anyone’s game, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see Lumpkin’s offense have a night. VERDICT: Banks County

Dawson County Tigers vs Northview Titans

Dawson County has been on the struggle bus, racing out to an 0-3 start. However, this week the Tigers are back on the home field, AND will be playing a Northview team that has a grand total of 8 points scored this season and has allowed 103. In a word, they’re bad. This HAS to be a Tiger win. VERDICT: Dawson County

#1 Rabun County @ #1 Murphy (NC) Bulldogs

The Wildcats had to cancel their game last week at #1 Eagle’s Landing Christian. They’re still looking to replace that game. This week’s opponent was supposed to be Walhalla, and was supposed to be a home game. Walhalla had to cancel, so the Cats pivoted to a date at defending state champions Murphy (NC), so this is a great test for Rabun. VERDICT: Rabun County

#1 Jefferson Dragons @ Mountain View Bears

The Dragons take to Lawrenceville to go up against the Bears, who are 2-1. This will definitely be the best team Jefferson has played since the Rabun game. However, it still won’t be much resistance in our opinion. VERDICT: Jefferson

#5 Stephens County Indians @ Madison County Red Raiders

The Indians travel to Madison and have all the confidence in the world after starting out 3-0. Hopefully just the beginning for this group. Stephens’ defense locks it down in Week 4. VERDICT: Stephens County

#8 Commerce Tigers @ Elbert County Blue Devils

The Tigers travel to Elberton to take on the Blue Devils. Elbert is 0-1, and Commerce is 1-1. It’s really hard to make any real case for either of these teams yet, but being in the Granite Bowl and having a bit more flair right now on offense should give Elbert the edge. However, crossing our fingers and going with the heart that maybe Commerce has figured some things out and will be up to the task. VERDICT: Commerce

Towns County Indians @ Baconton Charter Blazers

The Indians got a well-earned bye week, and travel to Baconton Charter against a team that has won just one game over the past two seasons. This should be a Towns County victorious trip. VERDICT: Towns County

Union County

Predicted winners are in bold

Gainesville vs #3 Flowery Branch
Jackson County vs Franklin County
Johnson vs East Hall
Chestatee vs West Hall
#1 Buford vs Myers Park (NC)
Riverside Military vs GMC
East Jackson @ Gilmer
Lakeview @ Walker

CANCELED: Crescent (SC) forfeits to #3 Hart County; Denmark @ Lanier

BYE WEEKS: #8 Cherokee Bluff, North Hall
