Game Of The Week: Rabun County vs Pace Academy

It’s just a tad bit simpler for Rabun County this week, as the Wildcats take on a #8 Pace Academy team, with the game being featured on ESPN on Saturday night!

RABUN COUNTY

The season-opening 22-13 loss at Jefferson showed just how solid the Rabun County defense is. That’s legit considering that two of the Jefferson scores came when the Dragons had the ball around the 50 yard line. The offense moved most of the time too, and no one’s worried about that side of the ball. This team looks ready and healthy.

PACE ACADEMY

Pace Academy is just 6 years removed from a state title under current coach Chris Slade, but this program has yet to get to the second round of state since that 2015 season. The offense is passable (29.1/game last season), but the defense was the strong point in 2020 (12.7).

OUR PREDICTION

The Wildcats looked dang good against Jefferson in most areas. Worth noting the confidence it has in its defense. For the first time in over a decade when winning the coin toss, the Cats chose to defer to the second half. It paid off, as the defense held and then the offense scored to go up 7-0 on the Dragons before eventually falling. This team is primed and ready for a big ESPN game once again. We think Gunner goes crazy on national TV just like last year. OUR PICK: Rabun County

DO WE BRING LUCK?

For Rabun County, we’ve captured exactly 48 games, and the Wildcats are 37-11 in those.
