College Spotlight: Chloe Bennett Enjoying Early Success At Brenau

Chloe Bennett is enjoying what few college athletes get to do – contribute early and often. While most have to bide their time, Bennett was fortunate enough – and talented enough – to be a go-to player in her freshman season.

It was amazing! It was definitely the best experience in my career so far! I loved being able to contribute to much to the team especially as freshman! I had amazing teammates that contributed so much every game so it felt really good to be able to contribute so much to the team as well!

” It was amazing,” exclaims Bennett on putting up 167 kills, 49 digs, 26 blocks, and 4 aces as a true freshman in 2020. ” It was definitely the best experience in my career so far. I loved being able to contribute so much to the team especially as freshman. I had amazing teammates that contributed so much every game, so it felt really good to be able to contribute so much to the team as well.”

Bennett, the Dawson County class of 2020 standout, enters her sophomore year with even more confidence after what transpired last season.

“Last year’s success definitely heightened my confidence going into this season,” adds Bennett. “Getting so much experience at the college level last year also attributed to my confidence playing at this level. This season I want to continue to build on my confidence by having more success.”

Though the Brenau Lady Tigers went just 3-16, she expects more to come in 2021.

“My goal is to be hitting at a higher hitting percentage than I was last year,” says Bennett. “I have also set a goal to get more blocks this year than I did last year. My main goal is to improve my overall game.”

The outside hitter was second on the team in kills, averaging 2.57 per game. She added 26 blocks as well, which was the second most on the team.

“The college game is totally different than playing at the high school level,” says Bennett, who was a longtime leader for the Dawson County volleyball team. “It is a more fast paced and intense level of play. There is also much more expected out of you and the season is much more demanding than high school is. I will say that the college level of play is more fun and competitive!

Even while playing at a high level, Bennett continues to also pursue excellence while earning a degree as a pre-nursing major.

“I will be starting nursing school next fall,” states Bennett. “It is very important to balance my academics and athletics especially during the season. It’s important to keep my grades up in order to be eligible to play but I also have to keep high grades for when I apply to nursing school this spring. Balancing my academics along with my athletics is the most important thing for me as a college athlete.”

At Dawson, Bennett had 198 digs, 175 kills, 86 aces, 17 assists, and 13 blocks as a junior in 2018. In her 2019 senior season for the Lady Tigers, she had 8.7 kills, 7.8 digs, 1.5 blocks, and 1 ace per game on average.
