Game Of The Week: Rabun County vs St Francis

It’s finally time for football! This game doesn’t really count for much except for getting reps and ironing out some wrinkles prior to Week 1. This first-ever matchup between these two programs features the #1 team in the state against a familiar head coach whose team is coming off a down year, though two years removed from a second round playoff run.

RABUN COUNTY

The Wildcats open the 2021 season as the early favorites to win the state title in Class 2A. Not just by our expectations (and their own), but the consensus state-wide thinks this could be the year for Rabun County. Coach Jaybo Shaw has about 20 returning starters, and this year’s team has probably 19 seniors in starting roles. This group is the most talented, loaded senior class we have ever seen. OH…and there’s that 5-star UGA commit Gunner Stockton. Enough said.

ST FRANCIS

You might think you don’t know anything about this team. BUT you might recognize the head coach’s name…Frank Barden. He coached previously at Stephens County and has quite the resume. He has some solid skill players in Jaiden Jenkins, Roman Stamps, Cameron Robinson, Camden Lusk, Al Geiger II, and Jackson Westmoreland.

OUR PREDICTION

Easy pick…Rabun County. Not sure how long the starters stay in there, but the latter part of the game might be intriguing to see who the future players are for this Wildcats program. Expect some vanilla plays called to not show anything prior to the Jefferson game, yet still some flashes of brilliance by these coaches and athletes. OUR PICK: RABUN COUNTY

DO WE BRING LUCK?

For Rabun County, we’ve captured exactly 46 games, and the Wildcats are 36-10 in those.
