The Warriors had aspirations to win a region title in 2020. That dream derailed with an injury to star QB J Ben Haynes and the emergence of Cherokee Bluff. Even still, the season was one of White County’s best in the last decade. They were ranked as high as #4 in the state polls, won 8 games, and nearly toppled a powerhouse opponent in the playoffs’ opening round. There are some big holes to fill, but there are several key returning players to perhaps make this season even better.

Head Coach: Tim Cokely, 5th Season
2020 Record:
8-3; 1st Round; #4 State Ranking

Personnel & Schemes

Key Departures: J Ben Haynes, Cooper Turner, Devin Sullens, Jaquez Williams, Reece Dockery, Jesse Moose, Dylan Archer, Riley Stancil, Seth Stonecypher

Key Returning Players: Silas Mulligan, Zion McMullen, Darius Cannon, Kane Lowery, Bryson Cronic, Alex Thornton, Riley Turner

Up & Coming Players: Tripp Nix, Billy Carder

Offense: High-octane. Whoever wins the QB battle, whether it be either Nix or Carder (both were getting reps all summer), they’ll have tons of weapons. Silas Mulligan and Darius Cannon are obvious homerun threats, and Kane Lowery is poised for a breakout campaign. Will Zion McMullen find his way back on offense as well?

Defense: Mulligan and Cannon, along with McMullen, Bryson Cronic, etc should make teams really nervous.

Strengths & Areas of Focus

Strengths: Athleticism. This team has the ability to score on any given play.

Focusing On: QB situation. Learning curve will happen no matter who wins it.

One response to “Gridiron Preview 2021: White County”

  1. […] The Warriors should be even better than they were last season when they won 8 games and were considered region title favorites for a little while. The quick start had them ranked #4 in the state, and J Ben Haynes’ injury issues likely was the only thing between winning 8 games to probably winning 10 and advancing deeper into the playoffs (with a better draw). Look for Silas Mulligan and Darius Cannon to do much of the heavy lifting for White Co, and despite who wins the QB battle, this program should be in the region title discussion once again.
