The Lady Tigers were so close to winning a state championship in 2020. The offense was explosive all season, and Carson Hobbs and company pounded out a program-record 23 wins (tied with 2019 club), an undefeated region schedule, a #2 state ranking, and a state runner-up finish. Graduating 5 seniors means others will need to step up if the Lady Tigers have any plans of repeating the success they’ve seen the last 2 seasons.

Head Coach: Melissa Mullis, 4th Season
2020 Record:
23-13-1; State Runner-Up; Region 8-A Champions; #2 State Ranking

Personnel

Key Departures: Rachel Morgan, Maggie Mullis, Gabbie Deaton, Emma Davis, Landry Kate Martin

Key Returning Players: Carson Hobbs (Region POY), Grace Hobbs, Anna Taylor

The program graduates a great amount of talent in Morgan, Mullis, Deaton, and Davis. However, anytime you return the reigning Region Player of the Year and some talented other pieces, the team has a chance to remain a threat to win a title.

Strengths & Areas of Focus

Strengths: Offense. This team is built to score runs. With the Hobbs girls back, that shouldn’t be a problem.

Focusing On: Themselves. It’s easy to look around you, but the team will need to compare themselves only to…themselves. Not last year’s team or the year before. This group will look to play their own version of Commerce softball and hopefully the rest will take care of itself.

One response to “Diamond Preview 2021: Commerce”

  1. […] The Lady Tigers lost several playmakers including Rachel Morgan, Maggie Mullis, Gabbie Deaton, Emma Davis, and Landry Kate Martin. Returning to hopefully fill some of those voids include Carson Hobbs, the reigning Region Player of the Year, and Grace Hobbs and Anna Taylor among others. Newcomers will HAVE to step up to repeat the level of success Commerce has had the past two seasons. SEASON PREVIEW […]
