BLITZ Golfer of the Year – Jacob Adams

White County’s Jacob Adams got hot at the right time, and in turn claimed the BLITZ Golfer of the Year Award.

  • Region 4th (77)
  • State 6th (76, 71)
  • 75 18-hole AVG

Adams polished off his career by representing White County as an individual at state with a 6th-place finish after carding a 76 and then a 71. The senior bested his 75 18-hole average when it mattered most, and was also 4th in Region.

  1. Jacob Adams – 51 pts (6 1st-place votes)
  2. Garrett Horton – 39.5 (4)
  3. Smith Caudell – 24 (1)
  4. Micah Webb – 17.25 (1)
  5. Andrew Hughes – 13 (1)
  6. Henry Sharpton – 7.5
  7. Charles Daniel – 7

Adams logged the most 1st-place votes which helped him secure the narrow win over Rabun’s Garrett Horton. Oddly, 5 finalists all received at least one 1st-place vote.

Voting included our 13-person panel made up of sports reporters, writers, video producers, former coaches, players, GHSA officials, and sports experts. The voting is Heisman-style, with the following points system:
1st place votes: 5 pts; 2nd: 3 pts; 3rd: 2 pts; 4th: 1 pts; 5th-6th: 0.5 pts; 7th-8th: 0.25 pts

Adams is the first White County golfer to claim the award since a back-to-back feat of Garrett Rowland. Overall, White County has won it 4 times, more than any other school.

Smith Caudell didn’t have the performance at Sectionals that he would have liked, which kept him out of going to state. He won BLITZ Golfer of the Year as a sophomore. He’ll be back to try and reclaim the award next year. So too will his teammate and fellow finalist Charles Daniel. Look out for Garrett and Connor Horton of Rabun, as the former was a finalist and the latter a near-finalist. Alex Hughes (brother Andrew was a finalist) will be a senior that has a great shot as well.
