Tennis State Tournament – Round One Results

We had a total of 15 local teams – boys and girls – take the court for the GHSA State Tournament. Here are the opening round results.
BANKS CO BOYS 5, HARALSON CO 0
#1 Banks County wasted no time in a 5-0 quick win at home over Haralson County to advance to the Sweet 16 against Pace Academy.
BANKS CO GIRLS 5, CALLAWAY 0
#1 Banks County cruised to a shutout win over visiting Callaway to advance to the Sweet 16.
COMMERCE BOYS ADVANCE W/ BYE
#2 Commerce had the luxury of not playing anyone in the first round of 1A Public. That automatically takes the Tigers to the Sweet 16.
COMMERCE GIRLS ADVANCE W/ BYE
#1 Commerce girls, like the boys, automatically advanced to the Sweet 16 with a first round bye, and will take on Trion.

DAWSON CO BOYS 0, MURRAY CO 4
#3 Dawson County fell on the road to Murray County, ending their season with a 4-0 loss.
DAWSON CO GIRLS 1, MURRAY CO 3
#4 Dawson County fell 3-1 at Murray County, thus ending their season.
JEFFERSON BOYS 4, HAMPTON 1
#4 Jefferson pulled off a monumental upset at #1 Hampton, dominating 4-1 to advance to the Sweet 16 against NW Whitfield.
JEFFERSON GIRLS 3, HAMPTON 2
#4 Jefferson girls did just like the boys and pulled off the rare 4-over-1 upset in a 3-2 nail-biter. That moves the Lady Dragons to the Sweet 16 to go up against Heritage-Catoosa.
LUMPKIN CO BOYS 0, COAHULLA CREEK 3
#4 Lumpkin County dropped a 3-0 match to top-seeded Coahulla Creek, ending their season.
LUMPKIN CO GIRLS 3, SONORAVILLE 1
#1 Lumpkin County took a 3-1 win over Sonoraville to advance to the Sweet 16 against GAC.
RABUN CO BOYS 3, HEARD CO 2
#2 Rabun survived in a thriller at home against Heard County, advancing with a 3-2 win to the Sweet 16 against Lovett.
RABUN CO GIRLS 4, HARALSON CO 0
#2 Rabun County defending the home court with a 4-0 win over Haralson, advancing to the Sweet 16 against Pace Academy.

STEPHENS CO BOYS 0, GAC 5
#3 Stephens County fell to powerhouse GAC in a 5-0 defeat, ending their season.
STEPHENS CO GIRLS 5, SANDY CREEK 0
#2 Stephens County advanced to the Sweet 16 with a dominating 5-0 win over Sandy Creek, and will now take on Murray County.
TALLULAH FALLS GIRLS 0, HOLY INNOCENTS 3
#3 Tallulah Falls fell to Holy Innocents 3-0 in their first-ever state playoff appearance, thus ending their season.
