BLITZ Boys Basketball Player of the Year – Kolby Moss

A dream season became absolute reality for Towns County and senior all-time great Kolby Moss. There’s little to no doubt as he graduates in the spring, he will leave TCHS as the standard for boys basketball. Moss earns Player of the Year honors after brining a state championship to Towns County, and setting multiple school records in the process.

  • 19.6 Points Per Game
  • 3.8 Assists Per Game
  • 6.4 Rebounds Per Game
  • 1.2 Steals Per Game
  • 55% FG
  • 83% FT
  • 1,887 Career Points

Numbers rarely lie. In this case, they speak for themselves. Even with a loaded roster that included the likes of another POY-caliber player like Jake McTaggart and other talented players like Collin Crowder and Aidan Berrong, Kolby Moss still find room to average 19.6 points per contest, 6.4 boards, 3.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. He shot 55% from the floor, and was money at the charity stripe at 83%. He smashed the school scoring record and leaves with 1,887 points!

  1. Kolby Moss – 50 pts (9 1st-place votes)
  2. Joakeim Celestin – 28.5 (2)

  4. Malachi Dooley – 19
  5. Pierce Martin – 17.5 (1)
  6. Jadon Yeh – 16.75 (1)
  7. Spencer Darby – 6.75

It was pretty obvious who our panel felt was tops, though Celestin wasn’t far behind with a pair of 1st-place gets, and even Pierce Martin and Jadon Yeh got some top votes as well.

Voting included our 13-person panel made up of sports reporters, writers, video producers, former coaches, players, GHSA officials, and sports experts. The voting is Heisman-style, with the following points system:
1st place votes: 5 pts; 2nd: 3 pts; 3rd: 2 pts; 4th: 1 pts; 5th-6th: 0.5 pts

  • 2010-11 – Jacob Evans – Dawson Co SR G/F
  • 2009-10 – Luke Crumley – White Co JR C

Moss is the first Towns County player to ever claim the award, and marks the 11th straight year a senior wins or shares in the award. He is the fourth true guard (non G/F combo) to win it, and first since Luke Chism two years ago.

With such a talented pool of this year’s finalists graduating (Moss, Celestin, Martin, Darby), that leaves front-runners Malachi Dooley (Habersham), Connor McKay (Rabun), and Jadon Yeh (White). Those three are legit and will be the ones to beat out. However, other non-finalists who easily could have been in the mix are Towns County’s Jake McTaggart and White County’s Silas Mulligan. Those are the guys most likely to claim it!
