Final Four Updates – Lumpkin Falls On Buzzer-Beater, Commerce Loses Close One

Only three local teams were still alive in the Final Four. Two of them played Friday night. Both were on the wrong end of heartbreakers.

Commerce 38, Calhoun County 46 (Girls)
The Lady Tigers (19-11) came up just short in a 46-38 loss to Calhoun County. In a low-scoring affair, it was only 16-12 at the break in favor of Calhoun. Commerce tied it up going into the fourth at 26 apiece, but Calhoun outscored the Lady Tigers the rest of the way for the win. Bryanna Sanders had 18 points, including five 3-pointers, in her final high school game, while Carson Hobbs had 9 points.

Lumpkin County 45, Cross Creek 46 (Girls)
The Lady Indians (25-5) ended their dream season, and were 5.8 seconds from going to the title game. A fluke pass skipped to a wide open Cross Creek player who put it in at the buzzer after Lumpkin had taken a 1-point lead. Isabel Davenport had 16 points, and Makenzie Caldwell had 10 in their last games of their career.
